Sports care

Clinical pilates

Sports physiotherapy is an important aspect of our practice. It involves the diagnosis and treatment of any of a multitude of injuries that occur on the sports field from the elite level to the recreational athlete. Our physiotherapists are trained to take you from initial injury to return to sport and will refer for you to appropriate health professionals where required. Many of our physiotherapists are working with local, state and international athletes.
Pilates may be recommended to improve core stability, strengthen and tone your body; reduce the risk of re-injury in sport or in the workplace; assist in shaping/toning post-natally; improve posture; improve sporting technique and control neck and back pain. All pilates clients are required to have an initial examination to establish areas of muscle weakness, tightness and imbalances and establish an individualised programme. Pilates involves matwork, gymball, band resisted, pilates ring and reformer exercise. Sessions are available one on one or in a duo (bring along a friend!) in one hour or half hour sessions. Matwork small group sessions are also available.

Back / neck pain

Work injuries

Back and neck pain can be due to repetitive postures, tight muscles, weak core muscles, or acute injury. Symptoms may be a result of injury to disc, joint or neural structures as well as muscle spasm. Specific treatment techniques and management plan will be based on thorough assessment and subsequent diagnosis. Techniques may include joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, dry needling, exercise prescription and clinical pilates.
We treat the acute work injury and provide exercise rehabilitation to ensure a safe return to work. Our team liaise with your workplace and WorkCover and offer workplace assessments when appropriate. We provide work-site assessment through observation of your workplace wherein ergonomic analysis may be necessary to find the source of particular injuries e.g. computer desk setup; lifting techniques.

Headaches

Remedial massage

Headaches can be caused by a variety of factors. Some of these include joint and muscle tightness in the neck, trauma (e.g. car accident), stress and repetitive postures. Our physiotherapists can alleviate the headache by thoroughly assessing, diagnosing and treating the cause of symptoms. Common techniques used may include joint mobilisation, massage, western acupuncture and dry needling and exercises to strengthen specific muscles in the neck.
Our Remedial Massage therapists will use techniques such as sports massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point and myofascial release to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. These techniques may assist in pain management and recovery from injury. Remedial massage therapy can also be helpful in treating stress and muscle tension. Regular treatment with a remedial massage therapist helps to prevent injury so will be beneficial for athletes or the casual sportsperson.
